Organic Tomatoes

The other week we harvested our FIRST organic tomatoes! They were gorgeous red globes chock full of meat and with hardly any seeds. So tasty and good! At last count there were 39 more tomatoes in our little garden in various stages of ripening. I have a feeling that most of them will be ripening at the same time! Good thing we love tomatoes!

My tomato plants are HUGE. The Early Girl plants are almost 6 feet tall and the Roma plants are about 5 feet tall. They're just enormous! Next year I need a better staking system. I wasn't thinking they would be this tall, so I'm a bit worried they'll fall over as the fruit at the top ripens. I've already trimmed off extraneous (non-blooming) branches and done what I can to lighten them...now it is a wait and see approach!

Mmmm, I'm looking forward to harvesting more tomatoes!

Ya know...if you end up with too many tomatoes, we're just down the road! :)

  3. Those look tasty! We ended up using trellis netting for our tomatoes and I can't believe how tall tomatoes grow.

  5. Thanks for stopping by and commenting on my red table. I didn't sand it first. Lazy and didn't have a sander or sandpaper at the moment I wanted to paint. I'm sure you saw that we did prime it though.

Now that I have a sander I might would have sanded--just the top, just because that is what you're "suppose" to do, but not because it's not holding up. Mine does have a couple of scratches, where my daughter was doing some heavy duty crafting and didn't have anything under her project. But in all honesty it had many scratches and dings before too.

I would also add some paste wax and buff it in.

Boy your tomatoes look good. They make me want a BLT.

  6. Oh they look YUMMY! I'm so tired of my garden. It was beat to death by Fay anyway. I should pull up whatever is left, but it's too hot to spend any amount of time out there taking care of it. :::sigh::: Glad to see SOMEONE is having a beautiful harvest!

  8. Your tomatoes look great! My poor tomato plants are sadly neglected. I've had a handful of cherry tomatoes and one very small regular tomato. It's now too cold for the remaining green tomatoes to ripen I think. Next year I need to water them more, and maybe not take a 2 week vacation without arranging for someone to water the garden ;-)
