So, as we know, I wasn't really all that happy with my mistreatments in my kitchen. They were kind of "eh" in my opinion and just weren't doing much for me. So yesterday I decided to do something about it!
As a refresher, here is what my window looked like before I decided to mistreat it...I still like this look and am not opposed to returning to it.
Here is my bare naked window...
Here is what my kitchen window looked like after my first mistreatment. This mistreatment was too low (among other problems.)
Here we have the same window with a higher mistreatment (later on I fixed the poufs...they were off kilter in this picture)
And here we have what I did yesterday. Actually, I did this after filling in all the nail holes from the plates and the previous attempts at mistreating. My poor wall was looking quite sad! I still have to touch up the paint, but at least the bajillion holes are filled!
My bad picture aside (camera was on the wrong settings--ooops!), I like this mistreatment SO much better! That painfully obvious horizontal crease isn't at all obvious in real life--I didn't notice it until looking at the pictures. I think I need to shorten the mistreatment a tad, but other than that, I'm really liking this one a lot and think I'll keep it for awhile. No sewing at all--just some hot glue, safety pins (to do the gathers and attach the bows), and upholstery tacks.
So after tackling the kitchen window, I decided to rework my mistreatment on the sliding door in the eating area of the kitchen.
Here is what it looked like before. Blech. Just didn't work for me. At all.
Here is what it looks like now. Much better--except it is a bit too long and needs to be shortened so that you don't feel like ducking as you head out the door.
And here is a bad picture of the two windows together. Further down the wall (past the sliding door) is the family room and that is where I have the faux roman shade I posted about earlier in the week. I'm still unsure about having the two different mistreatments in a row (this version and the faux roman shade) but they are two different rooms, so maybe it works.
love it! was going to tell you to go back to the plates after the first set, but i like these new ones!
ReplyDeleteI Love Love Love the new mistreatments! I think mistreating is going to be my friend in the new "home" ~ that and a whole lot of paint!! :) (all with your help, right?!?!)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Nom and Jess. And Jess, I'll help you--but not with mistreatments. I stink at those--I've been puzzling over mine since JUNE!!
ReplyDeleteNice job! I'd still find a place for those cute plates/clock that you originally had - they would be adorable on a kitchen wall. You did a nice job! Thanks for stopping by my blog and commenting - I appreciate it!
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing job you did! It looks GREAT! And your view out the window above the sink it so nice and inviting! It might even make me like doing dishes!!! ;) Happy almost the weekend to you~ Leslie
ReplyDeleteI thought your first ones looked nice but you are right! I LOVE these!!
ReplyDeleteSaw your post over at Kimba's. I was in the dollar tree today, and they had everything to do that centerpiece, several sizes of stemware, the tiny pumpkins, etc. All for a 1.00. Jackie
ReplyDeleteI think that they look great! I agree-they look better than the first. I don't think that they are too long-I woulnd't change a thing. I will have to go and look at the other post and look at your roman shade. I am sure that it looks great!
ReplyDeleteYou should be proud my dear-you rock at the mistreatment.(among other things of course)
Looks so good!!! You are quite creative!
ReplyDeleteWow, those look great! I agree, much better than the first attempt.
ReplyDeleteI liked the mistreatments before but I REALLY like them now! Did you just reuse the same fabric?? Looks great!
ReplyDeleteThanks, everyone! And yes they do need to be shortened because they're kind of low on the sliding door and I want the kitchen and the sliding door to match.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, I did reuse the same fabric--you can see the nail holes if you get up close, but they're not too obvious.
I spent no money redoing this project--the ribbon was from my stash and the fabric was what I used the first time. I love freebie projects!

Your new window treatments look awesome. I don't think the ones over your sink look to long either. Your like a mistreating pro, I love the fabrics that you used.
ReplyDeleteWOW...LOVE, LOVE the new mistreatments!!! They look so elegant now...what a difference...great job!!!
ReplyDeleteWow those are super cute... I am going for the bumpy one in our living room if I can get to the fabric store tomorrow. It is fun to see the process you are going through to get it right. Have fun!!

It looks wonderful! I love it! Your home is very warm! I want to personally invite you to Screaming Meme's Faux School...bring a paint Brush and a piece of furniture or decor and get to class! Your late! :)
ReplyDeleteI think we have a winner!!! I have treatment like this in my living room and they cost me an arm and a leg and a spleen too! Oh if only I'd know about mistreating 2 years ago...
ReplyDeleteAnd I really like the setting you had your camera on. Made it look all warm and glowy in there ;)!
Thanks for stopping by my blog! Nice to meet you! I really like your new window treatments. Great job! I especially like the no sewing part! Ha! Ha! Happy spray painting! I'm going to try to get a project complete next weekend. Keep your fingers crossed for me!
ReplyDeleteI'd have to agree. I like this treatment much better. I like the clean look though. And maybe since the faux roman is clean-lined too, it will probably work!
ReplyDeleteI love this! I acutally did my kichen three times and Im still not sure what I think of it! lol
ReplyDeleteBut I like this idea a whole bunch. I think I might have to give it a try...maybe with some fabric I already have because my budget is slim to none right now! lol
