The Nester is hosting a linkfest with links to imperfect rooms...here is my submission! Some would call it a formal dining room...but it often is used as the laundry drying room in my house! My laundry room is a small space that also is used to access the garage and doubles as a powder room. There is NO room in there to put clothes to dry. We don't have a basement...so that leaves me with the dining room! :) Hey, it works! I line-dry almost all of Princess, Handsome, and my clothes, so the dining room has clothes racks in in 3/4 of the time. I took this picture last night, as a matter of fact!
As an aside, I think I'm going to paint the mirror frame and candle holders black and see if I like that better. I'm so over the oak framed mirror. Blech! I bought black spray paint at Home Depot over the weekend to try out. Oh, and I'm in love with my centerpiece. I just did that last week and I'm quite happy with it. I like the color it brings to the room--because when the room is empty of laundry (ha!) it needs that pop of color. The table and chairs aren't especially formal--they were in our kitchen at our old home--but they're what we have for now.
Usually I am all about having things neat and orderly--whether it is my walls, my fridge, or the rest of my home. However life isn't always neat and orderly...sometimes I need to relax my standards a bit and let loose! (Says she who got up at 5:45am to make sure the family room was clean...I'm still working on that let loose thing...)
The jars full of fruit is so fun!
ReplyDeleteWell, look at that! My grammar is imperfect today as well. Meant to write..."The jars full of fruit ARE so fun!"
ReplyDeleteMe thinks you will like the mirror painted! I vote do it today!
ReplyDeleteOr whenever you get the time!
So many people are showing laundry! Loving that! So I'm not the only one who has laundry problems. I think I'll start us all wearing uniforms. I also think I'm gonna hang a clothes line in our garage to dry clothes.
Thanks for posting!
I love the apothecary jars!
ReplyDeleteI love the drying racks - I do the same thing, only mine are usually over a vent in the family room
ReplyDeleteAnd your jars are beautiful!
I love how you hang your laundry. I need to do that and save on gas bills... Your fruit jars are to die for!
ReplyDeleteI feel your small laundry room pain. I use my Family Room furniture to dry off my delicates, it's also the Glorified Mud Room...ugh...I don't know what the designers of this home were thinking by having the garage door open into such a beautiful room, or what could be a beautiful room..it has a huge gorgeous brick fireplace and one of the walls is full brick, too...but to us, it is just the pass-through room...such a waste of space....
ReplyDeleteI love your centerpiece and I bet the mirror will look great in black. I just spray painted my plastic outdoor adirondack chairs...fun project :)
Thanks for visiting my blog!
ReplyDeleteI'm RELIEVED to see I'm not the only one with laundry issues. Whew.
That mirror will look great painted black! I'd probably take the black spray paint to your chairs too, but that's just me and I'm crazy for black spray paint!!
HAHHAHAHA I love it! Oh wait til you see where we put our DIRTY laundry (not in the dining room *snort*). I think you'll feel much better about your clean laundry.
ReplyDeleteLooks pretty resourceful to me! The laundry's gotta get done, after all.
ReplyDeleteYour blog is so pretty. I really enjoyed looking around it today. Thanks! -Julia :-)
Love your centerpiece. I'm also infatuated with your picture wall--I'm trying to create one of those, too.
ReplyDeleteI love the centerpiece; great way to bring in color!
ReplyDeleteI'd say that's pretty resourceful. My dining room is often my craft room. You make do with the space you have.
ReplyDeletePaint! Paint! The black mirror will look great in there! Love your apothecary jars..so cute as a centerpiece.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my blog! Wow! You rock! I have wanted to line dry our clothes ever since I read the Tightwad Gazette, but so far I've been too impatient. I hadn't thought about setting it up a room we don't use frequently though. Hmmmm . . .
ReplyDeleteI love the centerpiece! And I'm all for painting the mirror. I've been looking for a cheap one for our living room with intentions of spray painting, but then I get so nervous about the whole tape-off-the-mirror-part that I stop looking.
ReplyDeleteMy laundry room is behind 2 bifold doors so I feel your pain. I pile all the laundry in the master bathroom & hang dry everything in there on laundry day. Gotta do what you gotta do.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog. I love the jars. And I too vote for painting black. Black spray paint is soooo "in" right now (hee hee...that's what I used for my IDHTBBTBP). Great looking family too.
ReplyDeleteWoohoo, thanks for all the comments!! Since today is a beautiful day (we haven't had many of those lately!) I put the littles down for nap and hauled my mirror and candleholders out into the backyard and gave them a good spray with the can of black spraypaint.
ReplyDeleteWe'll see how good they look when I'm not squinting into the sun!

It's as if I am looking at my dining room.
ReplyDeleteI do not have a dryer & I won't go to a laundry mat so I constantly have laundry drying in my dining room.
I like to refer to it as Early White Trash Decor.
Nice eh? LOL
Love the laundry in the dinning room. Ya do what ya gotta do right. I have more like a laundry hallway, but it works. I really would like some of those drying racks, I need to go to IKEA and get some. I think the mirror would look great painted black!!!
ReplyDeleteI love your center pieces!
Heehee. Hey, everybody's "loose" is different!! :) As I often say, "I run a loose ship!"
ReplyDeleteLove the laundry drying, my rack's in the garage cuz it's so hot, they dry almost instantly out there. Gotta do what works!!
Too much fun- love the jars of fruit!
ReplyDeleteblessings,
kari & kijsa
I love my drying racks and I have them smack dab in the living room most of the time. Better for the clothes, better for my budget and better for our far from perfect planet!
ReplyDeleteThanks for peeking in on my blog! Today was so stinking fun!!! Who knew looking at other people's imperfections - and airing our own - could be so energizing!
ReplyDeleteI've cleaned up several unphotographed piles.
I love your blog...and I especially love this post!! While, I think we all want our homes to be nice, I just love the idea of celebrating our imperfections!!! Thanks for sharing!!
ReplyDeleteThanks also for linking my blog to yours. I am going to add your blog to my blogroll too!!
Ok I just had to smile about the drying rack in your dining room because in my dining room I have an ironing board and a treadmill.. LOL Wanna trade?
ReplyDeleteLove love love the fruit filled jars! Looks great! And I vote with Nester, pain the mirror, do it today! LOL
Hey! Thanks for visiting my blog yesterday. This was such a fun way to meet new people!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see your newly painted black mirror. That is going to look so good on your dining room wall. I recently bought some black spray paint. I'm going to attempt to spray about 15 frames and see how they look. We want all black photo frames in our hallway. I'm going to be so happy if they look good...Talk about a cheap improvement!
Good for you!
Those jars and fruit look GREAT!!!
ReplyDeleteI'll be trying out a little more color in the one I have. Love it!!!
Thanks for stopping by my blog!
I think you have a couple of PERFECT subjects for some photos of your own. What cute kids!
Karrie
My laundry hangs in the kitchen/dining room. I don't mind it until we have guests and there are unmentionables visible. lol
ReplyDeleteWhere do all those dirty clothes come from, anyway?
Love those jars of fruit! So fresh and pretty!
ReplyDeleteA woman after my own heart! I perpetually have drying racks up too. On these hot summer days I put them on the deck, but the rest of the time they are in my master bedroom under a ceiling fan. How's that for a green house? Glad to see I'm not alone!
ReplyDeleteYour room is beautiful, despite the laundry. I absolutely love your centrepiece. It's perfect for summer.
ReplyDeleteThank you for commenting on my Imperfectly Beautiful post.
I love the jars of fruit. That is so Oprah! I think a tablecloth would make a world of difference (not that you asked my opinion or anything, but I just thought I'd offer it.)
